Chasing Mr. Wrong by: Avery Edwards

Instead of Chasing Mr. Wrong it should be Chasing Mrs. Wrong. I am really torn when it comes to this book. I had a love/hate relationship with this book.

It starts off with Amanda’s friends blind-folding her and taking her on a surprise trip to get her over her recent breakup. On the plane ride, Amanda thinks that they are going to Vegas, because what else do spoiled rich girls go to get over someone, well it turns out that when they land she realizes she is not in Vegas but back “home.” Never wanting to return home leaves her even more depressed.

Mandy kinda had me wanting to put the book down and not finish it. I understand she went through a lot growing up, and as you read you will find out more, but to become that self-centered to pretend like you don’t know your own brother, it just rubs me the wrong way. As for Chase, he was sweet for a play boy. I didn’t like that he could so easily move on after a night of drunken sex with Amanda but after you read a little more and you realize he didn’t move on, he redeems himself a bit more.

I did like the last half of the book better once all of Mandy’s friends left and she let her country side come out, but that could’ve had something to do with why she missed her flight, but you gotta read for yourself to find out this bit of info.

I hope you enjoy the book as everyone’s tastes are different, and who knows you might just like it.

The cover I choose to use is from the paperback book. I feel it fits better than the other cover.

I have read other books by this author and have not been disappointed, and the same can be said for this one. My only issue is not even with the book but in me and the timing of when I started reading this book. I was a little (well maybe a lot) busy and spent many evenings reading a chapter or two before bed.

Roarke and Hannah were madly in love for a time until they were ripped apart by forces unknown to Hannah. Now, years later, she has to return home and is soon enough thrust back into Roarke’s world. She is a photographer and when a friend gets injured and can not make a shoot she sends Hannah in her place. While shooting Roarke and the horses, it transports her back to their summer of love. When a horse gets spooked and Roarke moves Hannah out of the way, “the sting” can be felt through the pages.

While watching him with the horses, Hannah starts having all the long buried feelings rise up again and they start to confuse her on where she stands and what she needs to do. Roarke does anything he can to try and keep Hannah, but fears once she finds out what happened years ago that she’ll leave him again.

I did like the fact that it was a slow build to their HEA. It is filled with joy, hope, understanding and is the perfect read to get you in the Christmas spirit.

Broken Girl vs Fix-It Boy (Forever Love #2)

After reading book 1 I could not wait for book 2 to come out, and I have to say, Jordan did not disappoint. Each chapter is told by either Harper, Tane or Bianca. Disclaimer: Make sure you have tissues handy.

Harper is still struggling with the loss of her parents and taking over as caretaker of her siblings and the household. While trying to fight her feelings for Tane as she is still grieving the loss of her parents puts her on a slippery slope that is leading to a major breakdown. Her best friends come over for a surprise visit and they go out and party. Harper ends up spilling all that she is going through a drunken rant.

Tane spends his time split between school, farm work and trying to win Harper over. I like the fact that it’s not a rushed relationship, but I do feel like Harper could’ve been a little more willing to try sooner, but there is a book 3, so maybe it will continue there.

Bianca is a loaner who is still lost and trying to find her place in her new school and new life. Stacey is trying to force her to hang out with her friends. After the family realizes that they forgot Harper’s birthday they plan to throw a surprise party for her which ends up falling in Bianca’s lap to put together. She has to get over her shyness to ask one of Tane’s friends for help.

Beck seems to have come out of his shell in this book, fulfilling his role as guardian. You will read several scenes of him having one on one time with the characters and watch them all grow as a family. When it comes to Oscar, Beck is the best at getting to him. And poor Willow is still struggling so hard but making great progress.

There is so much I want to say but once again I feel like the more I talk about it the less you will need to read it and you can skip it, but since that is not my goal, I am going to stop here.

There will be a book 3 out in November that follows Bianca and…you’ll just have to wait and see who catches her eye. Once you read Broken Girl vs Fix-it Boy you will know exactly who I’m talking about but I can’t give away spoilers, now can I?

Abby and Gilly have been friends since birth and have spent lots of time together, including sharing many firsts. Abby is the eldest of many sisters and after watching her younger sisters start to fall in love, get married and become more serious, she decides that at 30 it’s time for her to have a baby. She comes up with the plan of having a baby, but she doesn’t want the hassle of a relationship and she also doesn’t want to use a sperm bank.

After her first date and failure to acquire a man, she is talking with one of her sisters and tells her of her plan. Her sister comments that if it was her she would want someone she already knew and someone who treats her well and be there for her. So after a little thought she comes up with the bright idea that it is perfect to ask Gilly to father her baby. He turns her down and for the next few days they go without speaking to one another, which is something they have never done.

As you can probably guess, he changes his mind, but not without a few conditions of his own. Like I said this is a short and sweet read that I had no clue I was receiving to review but am glad I got to read it early. Go pick up your copy! You also get a little more from Dylan and Taylor from Break My Fall.

Break My Fall by J.H. Croix

Book 3 in the Swoon Series follows Dawson and Evie, who both work at Stolen Heart Rescue and Lodge. Evie is a waitress while Dawson is a first responder.

There’s not a lot for me to say that won’t give the whole book away. It’s a friends to lovers through good times and bad. Both characters have suffered loss and have battled depression in their life and in this story, although brief, it gives you insight on what happened.

Taking Evie to meet his mom and brother gave a little more backstory as to what happened in Dawson past that has made him the man he is today. It does take some time for Dawson to fight his demons and finally see that he is in love with Evie It doesn’t help that his mom compared him to his dad a little bit and once you know the story you will understand Dawson’s standpoint on that.

Although part of a series, each book can be read as a standalone. The characters are all intertwined so you will get a glimpse of them and if you haven’t read the previous story’s it might give some spoilers away. It’s definitely one of those stories that once you pick it up you will lose track of time and the next thing you know you are finished with the book and you stayed up past your bedtime.

One Last Time by: Khardine Grey

Being the daughter of a wealthy businessman would make you think that she has her foot in the door and will automatically get the position. But in this story, that is not the case at all. Taylor, who has fought her way to the top all of her life is now under the watch of Dylan who has come in to repurpose her PR.

Dylan works for his dad’s company and is on his last chance trying to prove himself, so when he comes in to help Taylor, he ends up taking over and changing all of the plans she has set up with all of her events trying to find ways to save the company money, which in turn has Taylor’s dad loving him and being harder on her. Taylor and Dylan do not get along for this very reason, but the more they work together, the more they get to know each other and one thing leads to another.

They agree to keep their secret arrangement until the end of his time with the company, but as time goes and feelings start coming to light, they both feel like they are wanting more from each other but both are too afraid to say anything. And then they get caught. According to her, her dad has always been tough on her versus her many sisters. Being the second eldest, she watches as her dad gives his love and attention to her siblings. When the time comes and they sit down for a heart to heart, dear old dad explains why he has always treated her the way he has, make sure you have tissues ready for this one.

Oh! Where do I even start…Let’s see-in this book, you have characters who have suffered tremendous loss that changes everything they have ever known. I have been not so patiently waiting for this book to release since the author first started talking about it and now the time has come where I can share it with you.

When tragedy strikes and three families become one, some major changes take place. After losing their parents in a car crash Harper and her two siblings along with Stacey and her twin Bianca end up going to live with their “uncle” Beck and Tane, who is living with Beck since his mother’s indiscretions. Beck and the kids’ fathers where all best friends growing up and made a pact that if something ever happened to any one of them, the remaining family would take care of their children/family.

Everyone deals with grief differently, and in this story that holds true, as Harper’s sister becomes mute and her brother gets lost in the online world and develops anger issues. Stacey and Bianca, who used to be super close, let past mistakes come between them.

Beck, even though he is still dealing with his own trauma, does what any good person would do and takes the kids in and helps them through the difficult time as best as he can, which turns out to be really good for Harper’s brother. When things blow up with the kids, Beck takes all of them out to sit around a fire and finally tells them the story of how the guys all became friends and what happened in the past. He ends in telling them they are all welcome to stay with him for as long as they need and no one has to leave.

Harper, who is 18 and about to start college, has to make a tough choice of choosing between continuing to live with Beck and have help, or take her younger siblings back home to their house and become a single parent/college student.

It is told from Harper, Tane and Stacey’s pov. Where getting back to who they used to be and friendship is more of the forefront instead of a romance but you can feel the pull between Harper and Tane. I wouldn’t say it ends on a cliffhanger per-say, but the story is continued in book 2 Broken Girl vs Fix-it Boy which comes out in October.

The author informs you in the beginning that it is based in New Zealand, so some of the wording might be a little different than what you are used to but I have to tell you that I loved seeing a different part of the world.

15 Days With You by: Ara Grigorian

This is my first book by this author but I am glad I was given the chance to read it. I had not read a blurb when I got this book so I was going into it blind but the cover intrigued me as I am still wishing it was summer and I was at the beach.

Shep, who has recently lost his mom to cancer, loads up her old truck and moves from Texas to California to live with his uncle and aunt. When he arrived there he meets Sam, who is basically a sister to Carmen, his cousin. She is known as a clutz to the family and when she tries to help Shep move in, she breaks a picture frame of Shep’s, his uncle comes in saying “what has Sam broke this time” only to find out that behind the picture was a letter for Shep to only be read after talking with his uncle. So they all head down to the kitchen to talk and it comes to light that his mom was a surfer back in the day and went on a 15 day surfing trip up the coast and wants Shep to take the trip and spread her ashes at each of the spots she visited.

In her letter to Shep, she tells him that she is not proud of the choices she made when she was younger but she wants him to take this journey and on each day there will be a letter for him to read that will give insight to her life 18 years prior. Shep and Carmen decide they are going to go on the 15 day trip but Sam wants to go as well and it takes a little convincing for his uncle to let Sam go, with the rule being that Shep has to sleep in a tent so they are not in the RV together.

During the 15 day trip, Shep learns a lot about his mom, which as she warned was not all good, but he learned to push past his own barriers and do what she wanted him to do. When Shep left his old home and school he left some, let’s say demons, behind and it has been eating at him while on the trip. As the three of them travel, Shep and Sam get closer but she can tell he is hiding something from her, but he tells her he is not ready to talk about it. When he was younger he had learned to surf but had a traumatic experience so now being afraid of the water feels like he can’t honor his mother’s wishes and as time goes by, he finally asked Sam to teach him how to surf.

I want to keep talking about the book, but I feel like if I do then you won’t even need to read the book. So I’m going to stop there and tell you that the lessons he learns while on the trip are much needed to help him heal. I felt like this book was very well put together and it sucked you in from the beginning.
